Beautiful cottage with amazing views! Owners were lovely and very welcoming. Had a few dry days but mostly rain but didn't stop us from getting out and about, then returning back to the cottage to light the fire and relax! We will definitely be returning.

Five delightful days of 'not London'! Despite the weather a joyous stay. First time here and already planning a second. Judith dipper in the river (sisu.) Peter got equally wet cycling. Comfortable, cosy cottage in a beautiful place. Fabulous views and peaceful. Cottage well-equipped and presented, with friendly, helpful owners. Enjoyed walks from the door - around mine workings, into Calstock for a coffee in Lishe Café and along the wetlands path. Walk to Cotehele - lovely estate. Train to Bere Alston, walk to Bere Ferrers, train back. Hope Café in Bere Alston a surprisingly good voluntary run café. Cake recommended! Train to Plymouth, ferry over to Cremyl, brunch in the Orangery Café at Edgecumbe - excellent!

My husband and I recently spent a week at the Count House. We came for our 14-year Wedding Anniversary, and we really needed to relax, unwind, and commune with nature. We were awed by the breathtaking views and the peaceful, serene atmosphere surrounding us. The history of the area is interesting, and the nearby village of Calstock is vibrant and community-oriented. There are many walks in the area and Plymouth is just a train ride away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and regretted not having booked a longer stay. We plan to come back again next year. All our thanks go to Nick who made is possible to enjoy such a wonderful place.

What a hidden gem! We stayed for the weekend, to get away and celebrate my wife's birthday. We were not disappointed (other than all the rain - and we can't hold Nick responsible for that!!) The cottage (we were in The Smithy) has everything that you could need for a few day's stay. The walk down to Calstock is short enough not to be a chore. The local area is charming, as only this part of the world can be. The amount of wildlife (mostly heard rather than seen) is impressive - we were woken in the pre-dawn on two mornings with owls terwit-to-wooing one another!
Definitely worth a return visit if we can manage it.

We stayed at the Smithy in April 2019 and it far exceeded our already high expectations. Communication with Greg in the lead up to the stay was helpful and informative and Nick was on hand should we need anything but he wasn't intrusive and he leaves guests to it. It really is a wonderful getaway, it was so romantic something must of got to my boy friend because he proposed!! We look forward to making a return visit as soon as we can. Thank you so much.
