Okel Tor is a Site of Specific Scientific Interest. It is an important habitat for wildlife - badgers and bats live amongst the mining remains and rare lichens and mosses grow on the mine spoil. Near the river, kingfishers and green woodpeckers can be seen, and you may even glimpse salmon leaping and seals swimming in the waters of the Tamar.
