Ethics & Environment

Our Ethics & Eco Credentials

We do our best to minimise our impact on the environment and hope that our guests will too. Our cottages are vegan friendly and furnished as ethically as possible. Where we have to use synthetic products - our duvets and pillows for example - we aim to ensure they are from sustainable sources and can be recycled at end-of-life.

Our electricity comes from 100% renewable sources. Our heating and hot water are supplied by a carbon-neutral wood pellet boiler. The appliances are chosen for their energy efficiency and all the lights are fitted with low energy bulbs.

Wood for the wood burners is harvested from the Okel Tor Mine estate. Careful woodland management promotes new growth of native species.

Our hand soap, body wash and shampoo are by Faith in Nature. Their products are vegan and contain no artificial colouring, fragrances or preservatives. The bottles are made from recycled plastic and refillable. Ingredients are Fair trade where possible - if not, they ensure that the source is non-exploitative.

Cleaning products are by Delphis Eco. They are plant and mineral based and guaranteed not to have been tested on animals. Palm oil use is kept to the minimum and is RSPO certified. The bottles are made from recycled plastic and refillable. Kitchen and bathroom bin liners are plastic-free and fully biodegradable.

Both humans and dogs are presented with their own welcome treats. Flapjackery is based in Tavistock and makes our delicious rustic chocolate "dollops" which are dairy and gluten free. Apawtiser make the irresistible healthy doggy snacks - home baked with the best ingredients. All treats are vegan.

We encourage guests to use our recycling and composting facilities and to avoid unnecessary plastic, packaging and waste.

As the cottages are within walking distance to the village with its amenities, bus stop and railway station, and to nearby attractions such National Trust's Cotehele it's possible to enjoy a car-free holiday.
