The Count House

A romantic hideaway for two & quirky place to stay

If you’re looking for a romantic hideaway for two in Cornwall The Count House at Okel Tor Mine could be just what you’re looking for. The former mine captain’s office, where the miners were paid the ore assayed to check its purity, is now a riverside retreat - either as a cosy cottage for two or a restful retreat for one. With its wonky walls and roof at a jaunty angle this quirky little cottage is full of character and charm.

Renovated to a high standard and tastefully decorated it’s easy to imagine what it was like 150 years ago. With the benefit of modern facilities you’ll find everything you need for a relaxing stay in this calming environment.

Relax on the sofa in front of the log burner, perhaps with a glass of wine and a good book, or just let your mind wander and think about the simpler life of a bygone age. Gently greet the day with breakfast outside on the decking and watch the morning mist rising from the river below. Plan the day’s adventures or maybe just decide not to go anywhere at all.

The accommodation of this riverside retreat

The Count House has a double bedroom with king size bed and shower room. In the living room you’ll find a large sofa (convertable into a fully sprung bed if required) and dining table with chairs to seat four. The kitchen area is compact but fully equipped so you can rustle up a delicious meal. Central heating and hot water are supplied by a carbon-neutral wood pellet boiler. There's a shared barbecue for al fresco cooking and a shared washing machine in a separate utility room adjacent to our other cottage, The Smithy.

For entertainment you have a flat screen TV with DVD player plus a music system with DAB, CD player and Bluetooth. There is also a collection of games and paperbacks - see the full inventory of this quirky cottage here.

Information about access, parking, mobile reception, WiFi and other things to note about this romantic hideaway for two can be found here.
