The Smithy

A unique retreat on The River Tamar

With its forge and workshop The Smithy at Okel Tor Mine is where ironwork was fabricated and tools maintained. The forge is long gone but The Smithy still retains the feel of its previous industrious life with its vaulted ceiling and timber panelling. Old discarded iron picks lie abandoned on the veranda - an evocative reminder of the tough life of the tin miner. This quirky little building is now a unique retreat for two.

Draped in Virginia creeper and grapevine, The Smithy has been lovingly converted to provide comfortable, well appointed accommodation. Enjoy breakfast on the covered veranda, whatever the weather or time of year; take in the views across the valley - it’s going to be another perfect Cornish day...

In the evening relax on the sofa with a glass of wine and let your mind wander as you gaze into the flames of the log burner.

The accommodation of this riverside hideaway

The Smithy has a double bedroom with king size bed and shower room. In the living room you’ll find a large sofa (convertable into a fully sprung bed if required), armchair and dining table with chairs to seat four. The self-contained kitchen area has everything you need to be culinarily creative. Central heating and hot water are supplied by a carbon-neutral wood pellet boiler. There's a barbecue available for outdoor cuisine and washing machine in a separate utility room, both are shared with our other cottage, The Count House.

For entertainment you have a flat screen TV with DVD player plus a music system with DAB, CD player and Bluetooth. There is also a collection of games, DVDs and paperbacks. Find the full inventory for the Cornwall cottage for 2 here.

Details about access, parking, mobile and WiFi connectivity and other things to note about this riverside hideaway can be found here.

A practical pet-friendly holiday cottage

Although companion animals are welcome in both of our cottages, The Smithy is slightly larger and the covered veranda is ideal for hanging wet coats, cleaning paws and drying doggy towels after a muddy walk and there's a handy hosepipe if needed!
